Article V of the US Constitution

The federal government is broken. Career politicians in Washington will never limit their own power.

Our Founding Fathers entrusted us -- the American people -- with authority to call a Convention of States to propose amendments to limit federal power.

The U.S. Constitution dictates  everything not specifically designated to the federal government should be entrusted to the states.

That's not what’s happening today. Most states only control 40% of issues pertaining to their own money -- unelected bureaucrats decide the rest.

Sixty percent of the time… someone sitting in an office on the other side of the country… who was never even elected… makes decisions that directly impact your life.

Mark Levin says, "Today the federal government is the nation's largest creditor, lender, employer, consumer, grantor, property owner, tenant, insurer, healthcare provider, and pension guarantor: Does that sound like limited government to you?"

The Founders left a solution as big as the problem.

Now it's time to use the power entrusted to the states in Article V, to propose amendments to limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, impose fiscal restraints, and place term limits on Congress, staffers, and bureaucrats.

Mark Meckler comment, “This is the battle of our generation.”

It only takes 34 states to make it happen, and twelve are already onboard. We're closing in on victory. Find out more, click the video button. You can skip the ad in 3 seconds.

Bump stocks are banned. Does anyone disagree with this or is it good for all sides of the gun debate?

By: Henry M. K. Alau, Field Engineer (2017-present)

I believe most gun owners will disagree with this for the simple reason that the banning of one accessory (and I’ll get to that in a moment) is only the first step to the banning of another, then another, then one weapon, then a class of weapons, and, ultimately, the evisceration of the 2nd Amendment in its entirety.

First, the accessory (and that is ALL a bump-fire stock is) the item itself, is not, in any way, shape, or form a machine gun as set forth in the regulation. It was not a machine gun when it was introduced, as the ATF stated, TWICE, when submitted for review. Tactically, its use is marginal at best. To the best of anyone’s knowledge, it was only ever used in the commission of a crime ONCE, the shooting in Las Vegas. It is, in short, a way of doing inexpensively and easily something that can otherwise only be accomplished at great expense and great effort, to wit, shooting a fully automatic weapon. Removed from an actual firearm, it is a piece of plastic, incapable of being anything more than club, and a poor one at that.

Second, by the ATF’s own ruling, it does NOT convert a semiautomatic firearm to a fully automatic firearm. Its use requires careful manipulation and modulation of the device to achieve simulated automatic fire, but it still requires an individual actuation of the trigger for every shot fired. Unknown to many, it also has a second setting that stops operation of the modulated fire and becomes a fixed stock, allowing controlled semiautomatic fire.

Thirdly, there is not, and never has been any registration of an accessory outside of items required to be registered courtesy of the NFA of 1934. There is no serial number, no tracking, and only estimates of how many of these things are in circulation. Should it stand, expect yet another round of civil disobedience as hundreds of thousands of “banned accessories” are NEVER turned in. Reference New York after the so-called SAFE Act, Connecticut after their requirement for registration, and most recently New Jersey after their magazine ban.

Finally, to address the question directly, it is good for only one side of the gun debate, the gun ban side. It is good for NO OTHER area of debate on gun rights in particular, and rights guaranteed by the Constitution in general. It is illegal in almost any way it can be illegal and would not survive a rational basis test, forget intermediate or strict scrutiny.

The bump stock ban is knee jerk reaction to a one time event that penalizes thousands who have only ever used them for their personal enjoyment. A lone lunatic is insufficient justification for this step, one of many that have been taken over the years to curtail an enumerated right. The continuance of this course of action will only lead to the more restrictions on the millions of law abiding gun owners who will be vilified and falsely equated with the very few criminals who use guns to their own ends. If not stopped, this will, inevitably, end in the eradication of the entire Bill of Rights, the Constitution, and the United States.

Another thing I would add, it turns countless law-abiding citizens into felons for owning items they obtained legally and used responsibly.

Could Oswald fire 3 shots in 5.6 seconds using the Carcano bolt action rifle from the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository?

By: Stephen Binion, Truck Driver, former Marine, rtd Guard Cavalryman

Masaad Ayoob is a police chief and police trainer. He was of the belief Oswald couldn’t do it. In a class he taught on forensic re-enactment none of the right handed shooters could do it.

Oswald was right handed, but left eye dominant. Oswald shot left handed. Every lefty in Ayoob’s class made the shots in the timeframe Oswald did.

Found the article!!!

I too was a Marine like Oswald. Marines are better shots than 90 percent of the men you meet on the street.

I went to Deally plaza when I lived in Dallas. I literally laughed out loud at a conspiracy nut talking about impossible shots fired by Oswald. His LONGEST SHOT was 88 yards. I could have made those shots with my Ruger Blackhawk revolver in .41 Magnum.

Family, children & grandchildren, friends, mentors
Forty years ago, we lost a child -- and while I don't dwell on that with people, when I'm asked how many children I have, I don't know what to say.

Dear Amy: Forty years ago, we lost a child -- and while I don't dwell on that with people, when I'm asked how many children I have, I don't know what to say.

For years, I wanted to say Well I have two living children, but I also lost a child.

It never seemed appropriate to bring that up.

There needs to be a word to use for parents who have lost children. If I lost my husband I'm a widow, and if you and your husband divorce you are a divorcee, but there's no word to describe a parent who has lost a child.

Any suggestions?

Yours truly,

Wondering

Dear Wondering: Wow, you're right. There is no one word to describe a parent's status after the death of a child.

I understand the impulse to dodge this awkwardness. But I also think if you are able, you could respond to the question: How many children do you have? by saying, We had three children, but 'Charlotte,' our daughter, died many years ago.

Remember to say your child's name.

Subscribe to: Imprimis

Do you look forward to Imprimis and find it useful? Do you like to share Imprimis with others? As president of Hillsdale College, which publishes Imprimis, I commonly hear these things from people in my travels.

As you know, Imprimis publishes speeches on political, economic, and cultural topics from a constitutional viewpoint—and with the Constitution under consistent attack by the Left, that viewpoint is more in need than ever.

That is why we want to increase Imprimis’ circulation and influence. We think it will be of benefit to the cause of liberty.

Here is our plan:

In ONE YEAR, we want to INCREASE the number of American households and businesses that receive Imprimis from 3.9 million to 6 million—an increase of over 50 percent.

Imprimis was launched 45 years ago to promote the ideas of limited government, free enterprise, individual rights, personal responsibility, and strong national defense. These ideas are essential to preserving civil and religious liberty, and they need defending today as never before.

Do you think that increasing Imprimis by more than two million subscribers is a worthy objective?

If your answer to this question is yes, please let me know by clicking here: https://secured.hillsdale.edu/hillsdale/increase-imprimis-circulation.

Warm regards,

What is the scariest event in your life that you are able to talk about?

By: Louise Barr, Big family, lots of vicarious and personal experience

We had a handyman, John, in our neighborhood who did some work for me. We were fairly friendly, so I stopped to say hello once and saw he had a new helper. “Richard”, an older guy who lived just down the street, was polite, but showed a special interest in my 12 yr. old special-needs son. Now my son was quite “pretty” at that point and people had often stopped me to say that he should be a child model. So the first time this guy stared at my son, I tried to tell myself it was just more of the same stuff.

But something a neighbor had mentioned made me look up Richard. I found that he was a registered sex offender for raping a child with a foreign object. From then on, I gave Richard hard looks and refused to acknowledge him. He still reached out to us, but I wanted it clear that I was aware and that he had better leave my child alone.

There are no children in this neighborhood, but I did warn people whose grandkids visited that there were some decidedly unsavory people in the area. I didn’t get to speak to John alone, so I wasn’t sure if he knew about Richard. And my son is never without me or a trusted caregiver and never goes outside alone.

A year later, I was on the phone for 10–15 minutes. When I went to the kitchen, I found the door wide open . . . and my son gone. I did a quick, frantic search, then called the police. They also hunted, then put out a watch for him. I brought up Richard but they said they couldn’t search his house without a warrant. I said I would, and charged over there. I started shouting my son’s name, which brought Richard’s roommate to the door. I ran in, shouting for my son and Richard. The roommate called to Richard to open his door. It took him a moment to unlock it; I scanned the room and saw a tarp covering something in the corner. My heart in my throat, I shoved past Richard to uncover it. Thank God it was not my son!

I rushed home to the police, where I spent an agonizing 2 hours or so until we got a call from the police in the next town. My son had walked 2 blocks, stepped onto a bus (with no money or idea how it worked) and the driver had simply allowed it. When they got to the next town, the bus driver finally kicked him out. My son went up to a food truck and was told he had to have money to buy anything. As he didn’t have any, my son concluded that he was now homeless and all was lost. He lay down on the grass beside the sidewalk “to die.”

Luckily, a kind woman asked if he was OK. He answered “I’m not doing very well, thank you.” She called 911 and when the police arrived, he gave them our telephone number. I was never so relieved in my life as when I got that call!

The law doesn’t let me lock him in the house. The fear is that if I die or have a heart attack (not so far-fetched!) he won’t be able to get out, even in case of fire. I’ve tried to impress upon him the dangers of going out alone, but he slipped out once more while I was in the shower. I’ve solved that problem by confiscating and hiding his shoes and pants the minute we enter the house. We live in a warm climate, so a shirt and underpants are fine, but he will not go outside like that - except once. But that’s another story!

NOTE: I’m closing this post to comments, as I’ve received some that I find rather offensive. I responded to the above question and did not ask for people’s approval or disapproval. Read all the comments already here if you have any questions about my subsequent actions.

The author has disabled additional comments for this answer.

Oh, my heart goes out to you. The story about Richard is scary—all parents worry about that—but your poor little guy lying on the grass to die. That must just break your heart—it does mine, and I don’t even know him!

Louise Barr
Thank you for your kind and understanding words!

Wow. Just wow. Glad all worked out.

Just wondering if there is a phone app that could notify you when a door is opened.
Cannot add reply.

Louise Barr
I don’t carry my phone with me except in my purse. But I’ve installed the kind of alarms they have on shop doors, so they beep if a door is opened.
