♦ Classified SOP, category stylebook - Acceptable ads

One would think acceptable advertising content would not have to have an exhaustive list of that which will not be accepted. But in this day and age, some folks will think of options we have not considered.

All ads we post are subject to our approval and we will look diligently for those which are not appropriate. Click on the "Website Link:" below and in a case like this one, we would hope to catch it so it would not have been posted and then we would follow up and forward all information we have to the proper authorities.

In advertising, what is the difference between news, advertising

Don Nixon II, former Publisher, Proofreader

Credible sources of information are valuable, respected and reliable. Advertisers like to attempt to gain the same reputation and sources of information often “lend” their reputation to their paying supporters.

It’s begins a tightrope journey from integrity.

What are things about high school no one tells you? (something similar may apply to your first job)

by Lauren Davies
Lauren Davies, drinker of coffee, inker of drawings, dreamer of dreams.
Answered Oct 1

These are not - I repeat - not the best years of your life. If they are, then what comes after might not be too pleasant. Please do not peak early.

In the words of B. Spears, ‘you’re not a girl/boy, yet not a woman/man.’ Meaning: your brain is still developing, your hormones are raging - you might be certifiably, legally nuts for just a little bit. I’m not letting crappy, violent behavior off the hook during this time. You’re still responsible for yourself. I’m just saying, the ‘you’ you experience during this time is you…in a massive, swirling sea change of emotion, roided up on puberty and time-released angst. The ‘you’ on one side won’t quite match up with the ‘you’ on the other, and that’s most likely the most normal and best of things.

It’s totally ok to hate it. It’s also ok to love it. Just don’t make the mistake to thinking it defines you.

Grades mean, um….nothing. Absolutely nothing. Go for them if you like. Good ones are preferred if you care about what college you get into. But it’s more about passion you have for what you learn.

You’ll naturally gravitate to certain areas, and those will be the easier, more natural and fluid A’s on your chart. Your mastery of a skill is much more interesting than grad grubbing across the board.

What do you want to learn? Ask that question instead of worrying about grades.

Some teachers are awful human beings who never really grew up and stumbled into what they thought would be an easy career. You should try to respect them as employees trying to fulfill a function. But if you encounter a bully boss teacher, just see it as helpful practice for thugs littering corporate America.

Don’t miss out on doing what you truly love, whether it’s going out for sports, dance, art, music, writing, theater, etc.

High school is a time to experiment, and where you get to choose what you focus on.

Push back against your parents if it feels healthy to do so. Because it is healthy.

You can love them, but maybe right now they feel a little gross to you, eh? Hey, this is called individuation kids. You’re biologically meant to want to cast off your parents during this period, as a means to learn how to socialize with those your same age.

This is prepping you for your future, where you’ll outlive protections of mom and dad. Since you’ll likely outlive them, you need to learn how to work with the tribe and run with the wolves, etc.

If you happen to have a malignant friendship (I had one, it sucked), don’t be afraid to terminate it.

High school can very easily be a Lord of the Flies experience, and sometimes Machiavellian schemes play out within our closer friendships. You’ll learn valuable lessons to cut off frenemies, and seek out those true friendships that bring true value to your life. You’ll see what’s authentic.
